Work on the new Senior Center is nearly complete—just a few odds and ends left. The City Street Department crews will begin moving the Seniors into the new Center on Friday April 13th. On Monday April 16th the Seniors will enjoy their first noon meal in the new Center. Some folks have struggled with the change but we hope after they experience this great new space that their concerns will subside.
The indoor pool is being poured. It is a slow and laborious process involving extensive forming and installation of reinforcing steel and underground piping.
Work continues inside by all of the various trades: electricians, plumbers, HVAC installers, painters, wall paper hangers, tile layers, sheetrock hangers, mudders and tapers, stone layers, block layers, carpenters, etc. We don’t have an exact count but suspect that there are 50-75 workers inside at any given time. Hopefully the weather will moderate this week to allow work to begin on the parking lots and outdoor pool decks.
Happy Easter!!
Mother Nature was not very helpful this week. Snow and wet conditions prevented work on the parking lot, pool decks and painting pf the pool and lazy river. She promises to do better next week.
The excavation you see along E. Lakeshore Drive is one of the bio retention areas. These are being built between the road and new parking lots just to the south to collect storm water and filter it before it reaches the lake. These will be filled with specialized plants to provide a pleasing look that will blend with the overall appearance of the site.
Good progress continues inside. More concrete was poured in the indoor pools; much work on sheet rocking and taping; the fireplace in the lobby is nearly finished; two crews are on site installing the elevators; painting and wall coverings are being applied; electrical outlets, switches and some light fixtures are being installed; cabling for internet and TV is almost finished.
We need better weather for the golf course—not much progress on the grow in of new grass that past two weeks.
The improvement in the weather allowed concrete pouring to resume. Pool decks on the south side of the indoor waterpark were poured along with more of the parking lot.
Doors and trim are being installed in some of the guest rooms. Very nice look.
The lazy river and part of the pool received a coat of primer. Next up: Paint
Work continues on recovering the jetty with field stone boulders—you can already see the difference in appearance from the road.
I have had several people ask me if the trenches being dug along East Lakeshore are the lazy river. No, those are bio retention areas that will collect storm water run off and filter it before it reaches the lake.
The City’s new Parks and Grounds maintenance Director starts this week. His first priority will be to get to work on the golf course to be help get it open as soon as possible.
A bad week for outside progress this week. Rain and wet ground put a halt to pouring concrete and doing grading work. Completing the pool decks and parking lots are critical items.
Tom Meier, the new Parks and Grounds Maintenance Director started this week. He will devote all of his attention over the next several weeks to getting the golf course in good shape and prepared for opening as soon as possible.
Much of the work to re-line the jetty with field stone boulders has been completed. The new box culvert to aid water circulation in the beach area was installed.
Almost all of the sheet rock work in the hotel has been completed; some remains to be done in the indoor aquatics building. Painting and wallpapering is underway in the guest rooms and other areas.
Keep your fingers crossed for warm temps and dry weather for a couple of weeks.
