Storm Lake Iowa Project Awaysis

December 3, 2006

Work continues on several fronts. Area A is enclosed and has temporary heat allowing for the plumbing lines to be pressure tested and for sheet rocking to continue. A great deal of work is being done in the basement of Area B installing mechanical systems, plumbing and walls. The steel framework of Area C is nearly complete; crews are installing metal roof decking and steel wall studs. The roof decking project is hampered by the high winds of the past few days.

The final outdoor slide is being readied for erection. The sections of this orange 400+ foot slide are being assembled on the ground, then will be lifted into place. That process should start this coming week. Workers have begun to install some of the play features in the outdoor pool.

The lake bank rehabilitation project is moving along nicely and is really a huge improvement. All of the concrete rip rap has been removed, a fabric mat installed and then covered with natural field stone. The result is a much more attractive shoreline.

How about that orange slide? We believe that this is the longest water slide in Iowa at about 420 feet long. The slide also has technology inside that will let the rider select what ‘experience’ they want to have. Very unique technology that has only been installed in a few places in the country.

Progress continues on the roof decking at the indoor water park. The metal decking should be finished next week which will then allow for the installation of insulation and shingles.

The roof of Area B is being shingled now. This of course is an important step toward getting the building totally enclosed and getting temporary heat inside to allow work to continue.

Work continues inside on plumbing, heating, cooling, sprinklers and sheet rock. Some of the ‘storefront’ windows at the entrance to the ballroom have been installed. Work continues on the walls and roof of the restaurant on the south side of the building.

Be sure to check out the photos under the drop menu above. Many new construction progress photos have been posted. This is a great way to get a first hand view of the construction—both inside and out.

The steel framing for the Regatta Grille on the south side of the lodge has been set into place and the concrete foundations have been poured. Weather permitting, the floor will be poured next week. As this structure comes into place it is a great reminder of the wonderful view customers will have of the lake. This is sure to be a popular spot for people from miles around.

Finishing touches are being applied to the metal roof deck over the indoor water park. Metal wall studs and wall sheeting are going up. Keep your fingers crossed for a couple more weeks of good weather so that this can get finished before we get a big snow storm. About one half of the indoor pool basin has been excavated.

On the home page, scroll down to see the new picture posted there. We have labeled the photo to give viewers a better idea of the various parts of the structure. Thanks to Bob Ansorge of Buntrock Salie Studio for the great aerial picture.

The rain and resulting mud slowed the outside work somewhat this week but we are happy it was rain and not snow.

Most of the indoor pool has been excavated. Crews are busy installing the myriad of drain lines and water lines that run under and around the perimeter of the pool.

Work continues on the exterior shell of the indoor water park building, the restaurant framing, stone installation, siding and laying concrete block outside. Inside work continues on plumbing, electrical, heating, cooling systems and sheet rocking.

Work began on the clubhouse renovation for the new Senior Center last week. The foundation for the walls of the expansion on the west side of the building was completed. I would expect to see walls go up next week.

Most of the work on the outdoor water park has been completed, allowing crews to excavate, form and pour the final section of the lazy river. Weather permitting that should be completed in the next week or so.

The lake bank restoration project has been completed resulting in a huge improvement to the look of the bank.

Thanks for visiting the website and for your continued support of Project AWAYSIS and King’s Pointe.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The last pour of the concrete roof of the filter building was completed last week. The structure of that building is now complete so the task of installing all the pumps, motors, filters and chemical controllers with in the building can now proceed at full speed.

Work continues to get the indoor aquatics building enclosed. Metal wall studs are going up followed by wall sheeting. Work continues inside that building installing drains and water lines for the indoor pool. Crews are just beginning to lay the rock foundation for the pool basin.

Inside, work continues on sheetrocking, plumbing and mechanical systems. Tubs are being installed and some ceilings have been textured. The restaurant area is within a temporary enclosure so that floors can be poured and walls can be built.

Work continues on the outside putting up siding and laying the stone.

Happy New Year! Celebrate safely.
