RAIN, RAIN GO AWAY. COME AGAIN SOME OTHER DAY!!!
As you can imagine the rainy weather is really putting a crimp on outside work. A small amount was done last week and now with this weekend’s heavy rains, we can only expect a small amount at best to get done next week.
Work continues inside though. The concession stand has been painted and the prefunction area received paint and wallpaper. Countertops are being installed in the guest rooms. Kitchen equipment will begin arriving next week. Some rooms have plumbing fixtures and light fixtures installed.
Sorry I missed the update last week. Too many things happening!!
The compost mix material has been placed in the bio retention areas along E. Lakeshore Drive. All that remains is to top it off with mulch and plants the special water tolerant plants on top.
The two curved parking lots on the south side of the bio retention areas are being graded. Getting these lots poured is a very high priority project.
The new beach sand is in. Work will start soon on the beach wall around the back of the beach
Inside the hotel, works continues. Most guest room doors and hardware are in, counter tops and bathroom fixtures are in most rooms. Wallpapering and painting continues; carpet pad has been installed in about one half of the guest rooms. Stone work continues on the south side. All the landscape block walls on the south side of the pool and lazy river are done. Equipment is being installed in the concession stand.
Starting tomorrow, the decks around the pool and lazy river will be poured. Racing lanes and target have been painted in the pool; finishing touches are being applied to the artificial rock structures.
Poring the walls and floor of the indoor waterpark continues. Over half of that job has been completed.
The race is on to finish the pool decks and new parking lots to allow for the opening of the outdoor aquatics on June 14 or 15. The pool decks of course have to be done; if needed we could get by with a gravel parking lot, although we really don't to. The aquatic structures and mechanical systems are complete. We plan to fill the pool next weekend, then spend the next several days testing all the equipment.
Work inside the hotel and indoor water park continues at a good pace. Only a few more pours are needed to finish the concrete work for the pool. Guest rooms are taking shape with the installation of bathroom fixtures, door hardware and light fixtures. Carpet pad has been laid in the rooms on the second and third floors.
The grass on the golf course continues to fill in nicely. The overseeding done a couple weeks ago has germinated so the bare spots should fill in soon. We hope to be able to make a decision on opening date within the next 2-3 weeks. The greens are being cut lower all the time to prepare them for playing.
On a related note, good progress is being made on the rebuilding of Storm Lake State Marina. The new docks are in and are a huge improvement over the previous docks. The street around the harbor and parking in that area should be poured next week. Granted, using the marina is inconvenient this year, but I view this as a classic case of 'short term pain for long term gain'. This will be a first class marina when finished.
