The best news of the last week was that the wind damage to the lodge could be repaired. In a meeting on Tuesday, the contractors proposed a plan to pull the building back into a plumb and square position. Based upon their experience in similar situations, they were very confident that their plan would work. The architects, engineers and insurance company all agreed that the plan would work and therefore gave their approval to implement the plan.
On Tuesday afternoon workers set about putting the plan into action and on Thursday morning the first floor was pulled back into the proper position. Next week they will repeat the process on the second and third floors. Our thanks go to Advanced Building and Components for their responsiveness, creativity and overall great work.
Meanwhile work continues in other areas: the remainder of the first floor in Area B was poured; walls are being set in Area B; foundations for the indoor aquatic building (Area C) were started; work continues on the outdoor pool, lazy river and filter building.
Be sure to drive by Sunrise Pointe Golf Course. You are sure to notice the changes. The grass on the new greens is filling in nicely and the fairway grass is just beginning to emerge. Hopefully Mother Nature will continue to smile on Sunrise Pointe for a few more weeks.
The framing contractor, Advanced Building and Components, has nearly finished the task of correcting the wind damage to Area A that occurred on September 16th. Interior walls in nearly every room on all three floors have been checked for plumb and passed inspection. Our thanks to ABC—they really did a great job. We expect that electricians and plumbers will be back to work early next week in Area A.
Most of the first floor walls have been set in Area B (Area B encompasses the lobby, restaurant, kitchen and conference facilities). The framers will continue working on Area B next week. Watch for the second floor to begin appearing in a few days.
Some of the foundations for Area C (the indoor water park) are poured and concrete block walls were started today. Several slide tower foundations are in with a few more to complete. Work continues on the filter building walls, with the end in sight. Floors in the south half of the filter building have been poured.
Plans for the new Senior Center are nearly complete. We anticipate presenting those plans to the City Council on October 16th for approval.
Windows and patio doors are being installed in Area A. T hat project should be completed early this week. Electricians and plumbers are working in Area A installing conduit an d water and sewer lines. Work will continue in Area B this week with second floor walls beginning to be set.
Work continues on the outdoor aquatics. More lazy river sections and slide foundations were poured in the outdoor water park. More concrete was poured on the outdoor pool; play features will begin to be installed soon.
The big development of last week was beginning to set structural steel for the indoor aquatics building. As of this writing (Monday AM) several steel columns that will support the roof and walls have been set. A couple pieces of roof framework have also been installed. Work to complete the steel erection will continue over the next few weeks. Footings for the south wall of the building have been dug and will be poured this week. As work continues on Area B and Area C (the indoor aquatics building) everyone will be able to get a better sense of the magnitude of the entire building. It is bigger than most realize.
Lake bank restoration will start soon. The goal of this project is to remove all of the pieces of broken concrete along the lake bank and replace it with fieldstone . A geo-textile mat will be installed to help stabilize the bank and retard vegetative growth. This project starts at the east end of the jetty and runs east 1875 feet, to approximately the cart sheds.
The new greens on the golf course have been mowed for the first time and are doing well. But we need more warm weather!
Plumbers and electricians continue to install conduit , water lines and fire sprinkler lines in Area A. T he roof was shingled on Thursday and Friday which will allow the sheetrock installers to start next week.
Most of the second floor walls in Area B are up. This will be finished next week and I would expect that some third floor walls will go up as well.
Most of the concrete block foundation in Area C is complete. Crews will continue setting steel columns and beams. Setting steel is somewhat slow moving; completing the erection of the steel will take a few weeks.
The last wall of the filter building was poured last week and nearly the entire floor has been poured. Crews will now b e gin the process of installing shoring inside to support concrete form s for the roof slab.
More concrete was poured in the lazy river area a nd the in the outdoor pool. Concrete work in the outdoor pool is nearing completion.
Be sure to check out the photos page on the website to see actual pictures of the progress.
The primary theme last week was really just ‘ more of the same ’ . Work continues installing water lines, sewer lines, fire suppression system, steel columns and beams and walls.
Installation of sheetrock has begun in Area A; third floor walls in Area B should g o up this week; the foundation walls for the Regatta Grille will likely be poured this week; more concrete will be poured in the basement of Area B.
Installation of several play features i s occurring the outdoor pool. This is labor intensive work involving plastering concrete over wire mesh and re-rod frames. Piping for water lines feeding spray heads is located inside the framework.
Backfill has been completed around the filter building. Crews are now assembling form s so that the concrete ‘ lid ’ to the building can be poured.
As the steel wall columns and roof beams are set for the indoor aquatics building, you can see that this building is much larger than you r run-of-the-mill hotel pool. Exciting.
