After months of working underground it is great to see Kings Pointe begin to rise above ground. Guest room walls are nearly complete on the east end of the lodge. The roof will be put on this section of the building the week of September 5. Framing crews will then move to the next section of the building to the west. In this area are the lobby, restaurant, kitchen and conference space, with more quest rooms on the second and third floors. It is exciting to see the building take shape.
Progress continues on the outdoor pool, unfortunately no one can see that as it sits on the south side of the site, very near the lake. Some sections of the lazy river have been poured, the splash down pit for the splashbowl is nearly complete and most of the underground piping has been installed. Work progresses on the filter/pump building (directly across the street from Casey’s). This building will house all the pumps, filters, chemical controllers and electrical equipment for all three bodies of water. When complete, the building will be underground.
The golf course is really taking shape. Rough grading for all the greens is complete and the sand base has been applied. Two greens, the new numbers 5 and 6 were seeded on August 30; the balance will be seeded by September 9. You can see that the fairways have been sprayed with round up to kill the existing grass. This was done in preparation for seeding new grass in the new fairways.
The golf course renovation is coming along very nicely. All ten new greens have been completed and seeded — one day ahead of schedule. The new grass, which came up in 6 days, can be seen on the new number 5 and 6 greens. Grass on the other 8 greens should be visible by Friday September 15. All of the fairways have been tilled in preparation for new seeding.
Remaining works includes a small amount of irrigation system to complete, finish grading on the tees and fairways and seeding the tees and fairways.
I am really excited about the new Sunrise Pointe Golf Course. The mounds and contours around the greens give the course a whole new look and feel. The mounds and humps in the fairways (especially visible on # 9 along Highway 7 and # 8 along Radio Road) create a new look and challenge for players. Four tee locations on each hole will allow for variation and locations to match any skill level. The greens do not have severe elevation changes but do allow for some difficult pin placements for the proper occasions. The fairway grass is a blend of five different blue grass varieties especially designed for golf courses that will allow for short mowing and consistently good lies.
Be sure to check out the golf course page to see the new Sunrise Pointe Golf Course logo.
Let's hope that Mother Nature is good to us so that we can get on the course as soon as possible.
Th e renovation of Sunrise Pointe Golf Course should be wrapped up this week. Our thanks to the folks from Midwest Irrigation for their great work. They were really good people to work with and we are really happy with the quality of their work.
Work continues on the east end of the lodge (we refer to that as Area A). T he roof sheat h ing is on and roofers will be on site this week to install shingles. The framers will finish detail work in Area A before moving west to Area B to frame that area. Area B contains the lobby, conference space, kitchen, restaurant and arcade on the first floor. The second and third floors are g uest rooms.
Slide foundations are being poured at the northwest co r ne r o f the Indoor Aquatics building (Area C). Work will soon begin on the foundations for Area C.
While not visible from East Lakeshore Drive, work continues on the outdoor pool and outdoor waterpark.
We continue to work toward finalizing plans for the renovation of the clubhouse to accommodate the Senior Citizens group. We hope to have final plans within a couple of weeks.
As most are aware, the three story framed area on the east end of the lodge (we call that Area A) sustained wind damage from a brief but violent wind storm last Saturday evening. To make a long story short, the building is tilting slightly to the north and east. This past week contractors, architects, engineers and the City’s insurance company spent time assessing the damage. In the next few days we will proceed to formulate a plan to correct the damage. While it would be nice to find a quick and easy solution, the City’s overriding concern is achieving the necessary structural integrity to assure long term performance of the building. We simply cannot compromise on that.
Meanwhile, work continues in other areas. Additional walls in the filter building were poured last week; the foundation wall on the west end of the lodge was completed; preparations are underway to allow for back filling around the filter building; floors in Area B of the lodge were poured; and work continued on the outdoor pool and lazy river. Seeding of the golf course was nearly completed before last weekend’s rain; some reseeding and erosion repair was done this week. Weather permitting, that project should be complete this coming week. Walls in Area B will start going up this week.
