The City of Storm Lake is proud to announce a smoke-free policy for King’s Pointe Waterpark Resort. This policy will apply to all guest rooms, the AWAYSIS Ballroom, the Regatta Grille restaurant and patio, public spaces and employee work areas. The indoor and outdoor waterparks will also be smoke-free.
“Throughout this project, our focus has been on providing a superior guest experience. With a property that’s focused on children and families, a smoke-free environment is a fairly straightforward decision,” said Mike Wilson, Project Manager. “It’s the right thing to do.”
A non-smoking policy is not only healthier for all involved, but it also eliminates substantial maintenance and cleaning associated with smoking, thus reducing some operating expenses.
From a marketing standpoint, Stacey Eddie, Director of Sales for King’s Pointe sees the smoke-free policy as another step towards fulfilling the brand promise, The Pointe of Family Fun. “This decision will help us create a more customer friendly and family friendly environment throughout the facility.”
This announcement follows on the heels of a major hospitality company, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, announcing their Smoke-Free Hotel Environment Strategy. According to industry publications, the American Hotel & Lodging Association’s President, Joseph A. McInerney, CHA, believes the smoking ban will actually be a business boon. McInerney said by making this leap, the company should easily capture significantly more loyal new customers than it will lose. He said the Marriott brands could lose up to 11 percent of its customers but would perhaps recoup an additional 20 percent, making the switch to cleaner air a winning proposition on all counts.
Michael Rose, Regional Manager for Leisure Hotels & Resorts, adds, "Marriott has always been at the forefront of hotel operational innovation and the move to a totally smoke-free environment for all their hotels will result in a chain reaction across the industry. Leisure Hotels & Resorts applauds this move and supports it 100% as it is in the best interest of guests, associates and stake holders. We're looking forward to offering the same for our guests at King's Pointe Waterpark Resort." Leisure Hotels is the hotel management company contracted with the City to manage the King’s Pointe property.
